Program Overview

The Civil Engineering program at UAF has been accredited since 1940 and is presently accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The Civil and Environmental Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Students who wish to place more emphasis in environmental, structural, geotechnical, water resources, or transportation engineering may choose technical electives in these areas, or continue to pursue a Master’s degree.

UAF Civil Engineering students gain practical experience designing and building projects both inside and outside of the classroom, many of our students participate in student organizations and national competitions.

"Civil Engineering students are actively involved in hands on projects like the Steel Bridge Competition and Ice Arch where students work as a team outside of the classroom."
-Liz Binning, Senior, Civil Engineering

Civil engineers are in high demand in Alaska and nationwide. UAF engineering students and graduates are recruited by a variety of companies to fill summer internships and high paying full time positions.
