CESTiCC Hosting ASRA Students

On July 17, 2014, CESTiCC students, Paul Eckman and Chuang Lin, gave a tour of paving materials lab to nine high school students during their 2-week Civil Engineering module of the Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA) program. A general introduction was given on what transportation engineering is all about, typical Alaska roads issues and problems, and how engineers approach solutions to these problems. Students were then exposed to hands-on experience with preparation and testing of different types of specimens, introduction to sustainable materials such as reclaimed asphalt pavements (RAP) and how these types of materials work for cold climates. All students showed their interests in engineering and actively participated in the discussion.
