Update on UAF Concrete Canoe Competition

CESTiCC is happy to announce that the University of Alaska Fairbank’s participation in this year’s Pacific Northwest ASCE Competition Conference was a huge success! The conference hosted two main events: the concrete canoe competition and the steel bridge competition along with four smaller events.

a) Canned Food Drive

b) Concrete Horse Shoe Challenge

c) Environmental Challenge

d) Technical Paper on the subject of: Should Engineers be held liable for Construction Injuries on the job site?

UAF participated in all events at the conference. The team placed 1st in the canned food drive and collected almost 80% of the total combined collections of each involved school. The team also placed well in the remaining smaller competitions. The UAF Steel Bridge team will be advancing to nationals after taking 1st in every possible category.

This year, the UAF Concrete canoe team placed 4th overall in the competition. The Concrete Canoe competition was broken up into 4 categories: Design Paper, Project Presentation, Final Product, and Canoe Races. Unfortunately, the team will not be moving on to nationals but they achieved their goal of bringing an extremely competitive canoe to the competition in only their second year of competing.
