CESTiCC at Alaska Space Grant’s Math Day

CESTiCC’s Outreach Coordinator Joe Alloway, researchers Chuang Lin and Addison Yang all participated in Alaska Space Grant’s 2016 Math Day on Campus. The event brought 6th graders from throughout the school district to campus to learn about how math can be fun, useful and interesting. CESTiCC staffed two stations and taught the students how we use math in transportation related applications, for example, analyzing  how soil particles’ size effects on geotextile drainage, and understanding traffic patterns and how math and digital compression makes the digital age possible. It was a lot of fun, and we hope the students left with a new drive to learn and use math.
