Welcome to the Department of Civil, Geological, and Environmental Engineering
Civil engineering is a proud profession that has been a key to the development of the United States from its very beginning. Today, civil engineers are at the forefront of applying technology to every facet of the profession. Civil engineering is about community service, development, and improvement. It involves the conception, planning, design, construction, and operation of facilities essential to modern life. Nearly ever part of Alaska's infrastructure has been designed and built by civil engineers. The Alaska pipeline, the Yukon River bridge, rural water and sanitation facilities, and Alaska's ports, harbors, and airports were all designed and built by civil and environmental engineers. Many of those projects involved UAF civil engineering graduates.
