CEM to institute Differential Tuition Fall 2016

In an effort to keep up with rising costs and declining state funding, University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen has approved a 20% differential tuition surcharge for the UAF College of Engineering and Mines (CEM) commencing fall 2016. This surcharge will be applied to all engineering and computer science courses at CEM. It has been carefully considered by CEM students, as well as the CEM Dean, the UAF Provost and Chancellor, and the CEM Advisory and Development Council. UAA College of Engineering (CoEng) is also instituting this surcharge. The funds from this surcharge will remain with the College to help cover expenses.

This new differential tuition surcharge will add $38 per credit hour to 100-200 level engineering and computer science courses; $46 per credit hour for 300-400 level courses; $89 per credit hour for graduate level engineering courses. This includes the 5% increase in tuition instituted by the UA Board of Regents for fall 2016. It is still a bargain if you compare it to other universities offering engineering programs throughout the United States. Note: This charge would not apply to GER or other supporting courses such as math and science that CEM and CoEng students must take as part of the required curriculum.
