CEM Dean Goering appoints Dr. William Schnabel to the position of Director of INE
CEM Dean Doug Goering has appointed William Schnabel, PhD, PE, to assume the position of director of the Institute of Northern Engineering at the College of Engineering and Mines. “Bill’s long association with the college as a highly regarded faculty member and as a researcher, coupled with his passion for enhancing research efforts at CEM and collaborating with a diverse faculty roster and industry leaders, make him the ideal person for this important role”, Goering said. Schnabel replaces Dr. Dan White, the former INE Director who assumed the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research at the UA statewide offices last March.
Dr. Schnabel holds a PhD from UAF in Environmental Systems Engineering (2000), MS in Environmental Engineering from University of Iowa (1996), and a BS in Chemistry from Purdue University (1991). He brings his research expertise to the position from his work in the Water and Environmental Research Center (WERC) and will maintain his directorship position at this center as well. His background also includes work in the private sector dealing in environmental planning, investigation, remediation and cold region engineering applications. Bill has been serving as the interim director of INE since March 2015. He will start his new role as Director of INE in July.
