A Showcase of CEM Student Excellence
Tau Beta Pi Scholarships
CEM undergraduate students Jack LaSota (Electrical Engineering) and Najmus Saqib (Mechanical Engineering) are the winners of Tau Beta Pi Scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year. LaSota and Saqib were chosen from 328 applicants and were among the 200 Tau Beta Pi Scholars to be selected by the Fellowship Board of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor society. According to Saqib, the Tau Beta Pi scholarship was not only a helpful financial boost but more importantly, a great honor.
"At UAF, scholarships for international students are scarce. The Tau Beta Pi Scholarship is also an extremely selective award. It was great to have been awarded this scholarship," says Saqib.
Tau Beta Pi Scholarships are awarded on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. Lasota adds that "it is good to know that hard work in school is honored and rewarded directly and immediately by scholarships like these."
Both LaSota and Saqib are members of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society, and thank their organization for this rewarding opportunity.

Simon Ortega (Mining Engineering) has been awarded the 2012-2013 Mining & Exploration Division Scholarship while Mindona Krzykowski (Mining Engineering) is the recipient of the 2012-2013 Coal & Energy Division Scholarship. Both students will be honored at the SME Annual Meeting in Colorado in February.
