After making the trek to Fairbanks, AK in the middle of winter, television crews for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) original show NOVA met with CEM leadership to discuss some of the more difficult aspects of maintaining a building's structural integrity in the Interior. The episode, entitled "Making Stuff Colder," showcases both CEM Dean Doug Goering and INE Director Dan White in various locations throughout Fairbanks, including CEM research labs in the Duckering Building and the Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility, a joint venture between INE and the US Army's Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory. The interview focuses on two topics widely acknowledged when building in the north - permafrost and thermosyphons.

The original episode air date was October 30th, 2013. The section about the Interior starts at minute 26.
